2009 marks the 31st year of Bele Chere (July 24-26, 2009), one of the largest free outdoor street festivals in the Southeast, and visitors from all over the country and beyond flock to the event each year, so the local advice is to book your Asheville NC lodging for the popular weekend now while you still can.
Bele Chere’s draw can be attributed to how well it caters to a full range of interests. Festivalgoers can enjoy live music on four stages over the three-day weekend. The event also features all kinds of arts and crafts booths, and kids’ entertainment and activities.
For 2009, the festival has announced that all musical performances will be free. Unlike previous years, this Bele Chere will not have gated concerts. Tickets will not be required for any musical performance. With all the free music, Asheville NC lodging is likely to fill up with reservations early.
There’s a new twist for music lovers and local bandsThe Last Band Standing: Road To Bele Chere 2009 Battle of the Bands presented by Bele Chere and WNC magazine. The winner plays live at Bele Chere. Emerging local artists can enter the contest online at http://www.wncmagazine.com/music until June 3rd. Next, fans will vote to decide the top five bands that will perform and compete on July 8th at Asheville’s renowned music venue, the Orange Peel (http://www.theorangepeel.net) for the chance to play Bele Chere.
Another addition to this year’s Bele Chere will be an indoor component. The Asheville Civic Center will host attractions including the Food Lion Children’s Area and the Senior Oasis sponsored by PSNC Energy.
