Two of the world’s top squash players make it big in the Asian Junior Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Champs Low Wee Wern and Joshna Chinappa worked their way to the crown, and made their countries proud by bagging medals in the face of threatening opponents, by metaphorically treading on their squash shoes

In the women’s division, Low Wee Wern gave a striking performance that came as a surprise to the stunned crowd. She beat the popular Delia Arnold, who currently sits on the national number two throne. Arnold was also the top bet by the crowd since the start of the tournament. Wee Wern finished off the game with an 11-9, 14-12, 8-11, 7-11, and 11-5 tally. The game served as the semi-finals instalment of the NSC Series number 6 tournament that was held in the National Squash Center in Bukit, Jalil in Malaysia.

Wee Wern is originally from Georgetown in Penang. She entered the professional squash arena in the early 2000. She represented Malaysia in international competitions and went up the world ranking ladder quite fast. By February of 2009, Wee Wern ranked 37th in the world ranking. At a young age of nineteen, Wee Wern is one of the country’s top and youngest squash players.

This statistic was precisely why the crown was surprised by the outcome of the game. The match between Wee Wern and Arnold took a good eighty minutes of pure excitement. Wee Wern’s strokes made her overcome the world’s number twenty three champion. Arnold has been prided by her home country, especially after her rigorous training in England. Three months prior to the tournament, Arnold spent a rigid squash training session in England.

The game was described as one of the squash tournament’s tightest match. Wee Wern began the match by triumphing in the first two sets, and later took a 6-3 lead that finally won the game.
